Sengoku CV-2230 Kerosene Heater
Emergency Heat
You don’t need to live in Alaska to need emergency heating during a disaster. Temperatures even in Florida and California can dip below freezing in the winter, and living further north can make a source of heat welcome during almost any season. Electricity is usually one of the first of the modern amenities to go in a disaster; power lines are just very vulnerable to damage by wind or other natural forces. Making sure that you have a reliable alternative heat source can make a real difference in comfort for you and your family. The Sengoku Kerosene Heater has proven itself to be dependable, and can help make the wait for normal services to return all the easier.
How Does This Heater Work?
The Sengoku is a portable heater that is easy to store away in a closet or the basement when not needed. This heater produces 23,000 BTUs of warmth and will heat about 1,000 square feet of living space. This will be enough to warm a room or two easily. A tank of kerosene will produce heat for around 12 hours, so having a few gallons of fuel stored in the garage or shed will help you get through almost any emergency situation.
This heater uses kerosene, and as high grade kerosene has almost no odor once it is burning, there will be no offensive odors in the house. It is always a good idea, however, to start the heater outside, as there is generally a puff of smoke upon ignition. Once the initial period is over, the heater can be taken back inside. You should always be careful to put the heater on a surface that will not be easily combustible, and pay attention to the manufacturer’s recommendations about how far to keep the heater from furniture and walls.
There is one important thing to remember, however, with using this heater – you should always keep a window cracked to allow some fresh air to enter the house. Any heat source that produces an open flame will use available oxygen and produce carbon monoxide, even your gas cooking stove.
Safety Features
The Sengoku Kerosene Heater has a stable base that will help to keep it upright. If the heater is inadvertently knocked over, however, it will shut off automatically, to help prevent fires. As this heater will get quite hot, a protective grill will help to protect children and pets from burns.
Setting Up The Sengoku
This heater will require some assembly, but most people who bought it had no difficulty in putting it together. Once the heater is assembled, it should be taken outside and the tank filled with kerosene. You light the Sengoku simply by pushing a button, and then it is a good idea to let it burn outside for about an hour. This will help to burn off the industrial residue, and allow you to enjoy your heater without any offensive odors.
