Be Prepared for Anything

Nothing matters more than knowing your family will be ok through anything. When a disaster occurs, you may not have much time to act. Emergencies are often times unpreventable, so it is important to prepare sooner rather than later. Preparing an emergency plan is essential to securing your family’s future. There are basic steps to discuss with your loved ones, ensuring everyone knows what to do in the event of a an emergency or disaster.

Create a Solid Emergency Plan Emergency-Disaster-Evacuation
  • Evaluate your surroundings.
  • Be aware of any natural disasters that often occur in your area and understand how to prepare for each circumstance.
  • Learn any community evacuation routes there may be for your area. Get specific details relevant to your work place and for children’s school or day care centers.  The website for the American Red Cross will have emergency information that applies to your community.
  • Subscribe to your communities alert services if there are any available. These let you know of any weather emergencies, road closings or any other important relevant news.
  • Take a basic first aid and CPR class.
  • Discuss with your family what steps are needed when a disaster happens. Go through different disaster scenarios including power outages, personal injuries and separation from each other.
  • Create a floor plan of your home and try to have at least two escape routes from each room. Post the layout somewhere visible to every household member. Pick two meeting places outside of the home and/or town; in case you cannot return home after a disaster.
  • Make sure all ICE (in case of emergency) numbers are near all phones. Teach children how to dial 911 and any emergency phone numbers.
